FO: Star Teacher

Star TeacherIt's colored, it's glossy, and it's free! You might say that Star Teacher is Cosmo for public school teachers, "the lifestyle magazine for all types of educators."

And because quite a few public school teachers also take on responsibilities as librarians, Star Teacher does an occasional story on libraries and librarians.

The September 2004 issue actually featured a teacher-librarian on the cover! Check out "The Book Keepers" (pdf) by Marge Macasaet-Barro and "Building a Kid-Friendly Library" by Neil Palabrica.

The June 2006 issue features two stories: "A Checklist for Library Success" by Neil Palabrica, and "Attention: All Teacher-Librarians" by this blograrian. To download the pdf file for both articles, click here. If you want to see the editorial process in action, read my article and compare it with the preprint version I posted on this blog.

Star Teacher is published quarterly by the Sa Aklat Sisikat Foundation. Its first issue came out in November 2003.

(Digression: I contacted Neil Palabrica last year because of the September 2004 article he wrote for Star Teacher. Not only is he a librarian, he's also married to another librarian. But he's not working as a librarian now, he's the team publisher of Entrepreneur, GamesMaster, T3 and Top Gear. Who says librarians have to work in libraries? Go, Neil!)
